Resource Alert! 2019 Lenten Devotional for Dismantling White Supremacy

Last year, Nichola Torbett and I reached out to those connected to us, and through invitation, curated a spiral bound Lenten Devotional that wrestled with the biblical texts from the perspective of a melanated Jesus that was murdered by the state and with how black and brown bodies were experiencing a perpetual Good Friday of state violence in America. Where was our resurrection Sunday?

What began as a small project turned into a resource used by several seminaries and conferences, many small groups, and hundreds of individuals to reflect on this sacred season in more depth, context, and breadth of narrative.

With the cover image of Black power fists in a range of metallic colors, this year’s edition is unapologetically much of the same. Told we met a need, we hope to continue creating a pathway that leads to personal, interpersonal, and systemic dismantling of white supremacy in our minds, hearts, bodies, families, faith, and faith communities.

As Nichola writes in the Introduction:

... this Lent, we invite you to be part of the RESIPISCENCE community. We have gathered here a widely ranging collection of daily reflections from a very diverse group of contributors—diverse in identities, theologies, and experiences—and every one of them has something to say about how we dismantle white supremacy and all the institutions, laws, policies, habits, and ideologies that perpetuate it.
