2018 SOA Watch Border Encuentro

US/Mexico Border

soaw.org

As we prepare for the 2018 SOA Watch Border Encuentro on November 16-18, we continue to draw inspiration from those who have accompanied SOA Watch for almost three decades through vigils, protests, speaking out in the halls of Congress, and disrupting the system through civil disobedience and nonviolent direct action. For 26 years we were present at the gates of Ft. Benning, Georgia, and for the past two years we have been in ambos Nogales, Arizona/Sonora, to continue our work to close the School of the Américas (SOA) / Western Hemisphere Institute for Security and Cooperation (WHINSEC) by shining a spotlight on the disastrous effects of US intervention at the US/Mexico border.

This year, we are committed to demand:

  • An end to Plan Mérida and the Alliance for Prosperity.

  • Demilitarization and divestment of borders

  • An end to US economic, military and political intervention in Latin America, and the closure of SOA/WHINSEC

  • An end to the racist systems of oppression that criminalize and kill migrants, refugees and communities of color

  • Respect, dignity, justice and the right to self-determination of communities
