The Liberating Theologies Conference, presented by The Freedom Center for Social Justice, is a one-day experience exploring varying theologies with an emphasis on liberation and inclusion for the oppressed and marginalized.

The Liberating Theologies Conference is an extension of The Freedom Center for Social Justice's Do No Harm Initiative, which asks faith leaders in North Carolina to commit to doing no harm through interpretation of Holy Text or other religious writing. There is a particular focus on harm caused on the basis of sexual orientation, gender expression, race and/or faith tradition.

Do No Harm exists to create cultural shifts across the state of North Carolina, especially as it relates to faith communities and inclusion for the LGBTQ community.  

There is a need in North Carolina to make a bold statement about intersectional justice and the importance of restorative justice for those in the LGBTQ community who have been ostracized and even banished from the church. Liberating Theologies seeks to uplift diverse religious narratives in support of the LGBTQ community.

This inaugural conference is held in partnership with Union Theological Seminary of New York and in honor of Reverend Dr. James H. Cone, the renowned founder of Black Liberation Theology.
