Hello everyone. There's been a lot of talk lately about where the Emerging Church is going. Over at Sojourners, there's a discussion about whether or not the movement is racially diverse enough.…Continue

I'm new to the "emerging" discussion and to TransFORM. However I have been digging into Borg quite a bit lately. And I am currently wrapping up "The Last Week: A Day-by-Day Account of Jesus's Final Week in Jerusalem" by…

I think part of me is still concerned with having the right doctrine. Maybe not to the point of being a heresy hunter (if I ever get that bad, shoot me!), but I've still got a discerning eye. Which I don't think is entirely a bad thing,…

Travis, I think the defining ethic (as opposed to doctrine) of the EC is love. And that means working it out in the spaces of belief, where there is obvious tension and argument. Can we stay in the midst of love and disagree. I think it is only…

Travis, Speaking as someone in the EC conversation coming from a firmly evangelical background, I think there's quite a few people like you (and me) who still feel more comfortable with N.T. Wright than Borg or Spong. It's interesting (to…

An Episcopal priest friend of mine asked a very good question of the "Emergent" a few months ago concerning what he reads and hears from many people in the Conversation: How is this any different than what was going on in the 1970's…

Different Theological Views Within the Conversation

I have question:  how do you all feel about different theological views within the emerging church conversation?  I know that the emerging church doesn't have a specific detailed list of doctrines, but I've noticed that a lot of my peers are deeply influenced by Spong and Borg, and I don't always agree with them.  I personally have a trinitarian view of Jesus.  And when it comes to Easter, I side more with N.T. Wright than Borg; I believe the empty tomb changes everything. After talking with…See More

We're working on a TransFORM West Coast Gathering right now, Travis. There really isn't any discussion at this point about doing another East Coast event, although I think a number of people will be participating in the Big Tent…

No, I have a hard time understanding it, too . . . and I come from an Evangelical Protestant background! Try stuffchristianslike.net. It's a satire of the Evangelical culture (written by an Evangelical).

My take is that the emerging movement was never really intended to be a list of theological statements so much as it was intended to be a philosophy of ministry that impacted the church and people. We are at the beginning phases of a cultural shift…

Funny, I just went on a bit of a rant about something similar to this a couple minutes ago. Bottom line is I don't see the "emergent" movement really standing for much and it won't really affect much positive change unless it…

If you're like me, youdon't full comfortable fully embracing people unless you really knowthem. I tend to keep to myself most of the time. Don't get me wrong,I'm no hermit; I need human contact just as much as the next person. But I don't allow myself to totally open my arms and life to peopleunless I really get to know some one.And so my question is how does this translate into missional living? How can I go out into the world and be Jesus' hands and feet if I don'tfeel comfortable totally…See More
