Event Description

Change Takes Faith: People of Faith Can Make a Difference for Immigration Reform

Hosted by The Beatitudes Society ad Faith In Public Life

"Pastor, I just lost my job, because my boss figured out he can hire a new immigrant for a lot cheaper. What do you mean when you say we should support the dignity of every person by supporting immigration reform? Who’s supporting my dignity?”

“Pastor, I think we should open up our church as a sanctuary for immigrants facing deportation. Are you willing to do that?”

Faith leaders hear tough questions about a whole host of issues, and one of those issues today is immigration reform. There are no easy answers, but faith leaders are called to respond with theological integrity, pastoral sensitivity and a sound base of knowledge. It also helps to engage the tough questions in the good company of colleagues. The Beatitudes Society and Faith in Public Life is inviting you to do just that.

Please join with us and your colleagues for refreshments, fellowship, and an “insiders’ briefing” with Jenifer S. Smyers, of Church World Service and Dan Cox of Public Religion Research Institute who will offer an update on the role of faith communities in the current campaign for just and compassionate immigration reform.

Jenifer S. Smyers is the Associate for Immigration and Refugee Policy with Church World Service, Immigration and Refugee Program.

Dan Cox is Director of Research and Co-founder of Public Religion Research Institute. Prior to joining PRRI, he served as Research Associate at the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.
